June 2 Tuesday Heavy showers. I was much of the day in London. Some rain got into the object-glass of the Transit, and I had it several hours by a fire. I was busy with the Optics.
June 3 Wednesday Pretty fine. Professor Forbes called. The warming of the object glass continued and it was mounted; I went on with Optics.
June 4 Thursday Calm dull day. I went on with Optics; business as usual
June 5 Friday Dull; some rain. Employments as yesterday
June 6 Saturday Very fine morning, very heavy rain at night. This day was held the Visitation of the Observatory; small attendance; no particular business except the discussion on the propriety of applying for a new Warrant and on the proposed Chatham railway. Dinner as usual at the Crown and Sceptre
June 7 Sunday Pretty fine
June 8 Monday Fine day; cloudy at night. Besides usual business, I wrote a number of letters, and worked a little at the Optics.
June 9 Tuesday Cloudy. I worked at the Optics.
June 10 Wednesday Cloudy; fine evening. I busy with the Optics

June 12 Friday Some rain. I attended the Council meeting of the R. Ast. Society; busy at home with Optics
June 13 Saturday Pretty fine. I finished my optical paper, diagrams & as well as writing for the Royal Society.

June 15 Monday Mr Henderson of Edinburgh Observatory visited me
June 16 Tuesday Pretty fine; I was much at London
