[Had] dinner at the Hsien Cheng-Fu [Xian Zhengfu, Prefectural Government]; [was] invited by Li [Shaoling], the Governor's Secretary. [The guests were all representatives of] Tongmeng kuodjia [tongmeng guojia, the Allies]. I wore my Chinese [changua] and magua, [they were] very successful. Sun. 12th [Dec.] Bryan came round to sort out the MoI [Ministry of Information] stuff. Met Col. P'i Tsung-Gan 皮宗敢 [Pi Zonggan] of Sandhurst, who had interpreted for me at the Gissimo's [Generalissimo's], now o/c [Officer in Charge] of Northwest Army Transport, and German-trained Liu Mei-Yin 劉美蔭 [Liu Meiyin], radio expert. [Had] lunch with RA, [and] supper at the Moslem restaurant with Bryan and Rice.

Mon. 13th [Dec.] K-L [Zhang Guanlian] [went], with 4500, to Wang at the Sheng Cheng-Fu [Sheng Zhengfu, Provincial Government]. Cigs 30, rickshaw 30, pears 60, cigars 30, ironing of Ch[inese] gown by tailor 30.

Tues. 14th [Dec.] Went down to the airport and bought a ticket at the last moment. [Was] helped by Wu Tso-Rjeng, having drawn the portrait of Chen I-Ming, chief of the NW [Northwest] Secret Police the day before. Arrived at CK [Chungking] at 5:00 pm, [and was] met by John B [Blofield].
