Canna Warz . 1868. New set of Crosses, made chiefly on th former self-fertilised plants . — All th flowers which were crossed & art. self-fertiled were done within 24O after expandingt1 , but I daresy some of them were done too late & were alredy self-fertilised spontaneously .

[25 flower were crossed & produced 16 pods, containg 141 seed. ie averge 8.81 seed: with max. of 21 & 17 min of 1. — but these extrems were unusully blnded togethr :]
[26 fl were «artifically»t2 self-fert & produced 15 pods containg 131 seed, ie averge 8.73. with max. of 14 & min. of 2 .
Hence apparently slight & not trustwrthy increase of fertility frm crossing .
[Th 141. crossed seeds weighed 266gr.78 ∴ 100 wd weight 189.2 gr.
The 131 self seds weighed 249.17 ∴ 100 wd weigh 190.2 gr.
Therefore no sensible difference between seeds: —
