The park lies on both sides of the R.
Kent; the bridge has fallen down.
Levens Hall is separated by the A6,
which crosses by a big stone bridge.
Mostly old grassland with
much Luzula Campestris etc.
The river is fast, a little polluted,
in a gorge with clffs in places
(in one place a great limestone
overhang), broadening into a little
flood-plain below.
Formal trees.

All robur. Very variable. Not
usually very spreading, but sinu-
ous. About 40% of the originals
survive, most of the gaps are
replaced by 2nd-gen. oaks, but
